The time has arrived!! My father has finally started his first treatment at City of Hope Hospital of the new FDA approved drug called Atezolizumab! If you have been keeping up with my previous blogs, then you know that my father has requested that I document and share his journey of him fighting bladder cancer and multiple myeloma, which is a type of blood cancer. A few weeks ago, he had major complications with chemotherapy, which is why he has been switched to this new drug. And speaking of the new drug, something pretty cool that happened yesterday, was that my father was the first patient at City of Hope to get Atezolizumab as an official FDA Approved Drug! History baby!! :) So, let me share with you what this new drug is supposed to do. The way it was explained to us is that Atezolizumab boosts your own immune system and targets, like snipers, cancer cells. Amazing, right? As a military man, he loved that visual!! The only thing is that as of right now, the treatment only works on 25% of patients. That is why all your prayers are welcome as we pray he is one of the 25% of people it works on!! His next treatment is in 3 weeks! In the meantime, we are soaking everyday together and celebrating life!! Thanks for sharing this journey with the Garcia family!! #grateful ❤️
