After posting a photo of me breastfeeding my son during an interview, aka FEEDING my son during an interview - I'm shocked by some of the negative comments I've read, telling me Max will have bullies after him because I posted that & that feeding a baby in public is not right. Really?? Do you eat in private only? It's unfortunate that many mamas feel the need to feed in private because of those who view it as 'not right'. Some mamas tuck away into a bathroom or the backseat of a car because people like that don't accept breastfeeding for what it is & mama feels she has to hide out to feed her baby! In this photo I'm feeding my baby in the 'nursing' room - which just so happens to be the washroom. Very common scenario and to be honest I don't mind the dual option that it offers me, it's just messed up that we have to tuck ourselves away to give our child nourishment, if that nourishment is from the breast. Let me ask you - would you want to eat your lunch in the washroom? The other photo was on set during a photoshoot. It was feeding time, so I fed him, just like in my Entertainment Tonight interview Luckily no one batted an eyelash, and ET even filmed the rest of the interview while I fed Max. But too many women have a workplace struggle with breasfeeding or pumping. This weeks #worldbreastfeedingweek's theme was focused on the workplace and helping recognize that breastfeeding is a natural thing & workplace environments need to accommodate their working mamas! Breastfeeding is normal and natural - it is why God gave women these 'puppies'. And, by the way, breastfeeding is legal - it is the law. Breastfeeding in public is a right in Canada under the Charter of Rights & Freedoms. Breastfeeding mothers are also protected in most US states (I believe 47). So to those who said its not right - go eat your sandwich in the can & let me know how you stratusfying that is.
